GP-LP Fundraising Report

Q2 2026 GP-LP Fundraising Report

Produced by the Stears research team and derived exclusively from the Stears Funds Database, the Q2 2026 GP-LP Fundraising Report provides an independent, verified analysis of Limited Partner (LP) commitments into African private capital fund vehicles. Covering Private Equity, Venture Capital, Private Credit, and Infrastructure, this edition logs 64 LP commitments and $272M in disclosed value during the quarter. Every data point is compiled from reliable third-party sources and independently verified against at least two independent records. For fund managers, institutional investors, LPs, and DFIs tracking capital formation on the continent, this report offers the most granular read on investor participation, ticket-size distributions, and sectoral rotation in African private capital.

What's Inside the Report?

LP League Tables: Proparco remained the most active LP in Q2 with five commitments. However, DFI concentration eased as regional and impact-focused LPs stepped up, FSD Africa Investments Limited (FSDAi) placed second overall with four commitments, while the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC) deployed capital across two vehicles. On the value side, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du PJSC) led with $50M commitments each.
Commitment Size Analysis: The quarter was heavily skewed toward lower-ticket allocations. Commitments under $10M accounted for 58% of disclosed activity, while $10M–$20M and $20M–$50M each captured 21%. With zero disclosed commitments above $50M, Q2 highlighted a market driven by broad investor participation in smaller ticket sizes rather than mega-anchor allocations.
Fund Type Breakdown: Venture Capital swept both volume and value metrics, accounting for 50% of LP commitment volume and 34% of disclosed value. Meanwhile, PE, Infrastructure, and Private Credit captured a balanced share of remaining disclosed value (~21%–23% each), demonstrating sustained LP appetite across diverse investment strategies.
Sectoral Insights: Information Technology emerged as the clear leader, featuring in 61% of commitment volume and 56% of disclosed value, a sharp increase from Q2 2025. Agriculture followed closely by value (39%), driven by Private Credit allocations, while Infrastructure strategies commanded disclosed value in Energy & Utilities (79%) and Industrials (78%).
Historical Second-Quarter Trends: Q2 2026 registered the highest second-quarter LP commitment volume since 2021 (64 commitments), confirming persistent investor engagement. However, disclosed value hit a dataset low of $272M due to a lower disclosure rate (30%) and an absence of massive anchor checks.
